Kim Darroch

Kim Darroch, Baron Darroch of Kew, KCMG, is a retired British diplomat whose career in public service spanned four decades. From January 2016 until December 2019, he held the post of British Ambassador to the United States. Earlier in his distinguished career, he served as the UK's National Security Adviser and as the UK Permanent Representative to the European Union.

In July 2019, a leak of diplomatic communications—in which Darroch had expressed criticism of the Trump administration—led to his resignation as HM Ambassador in Washington on 10 July 2019. He formally stepped down from the role in December 2019, retiring from HM Diplomatic Service at the same time.

His achievements include leading the British diplomatic mission in Washington during a particularly turbulent period in UK–US relations, and holding two of the most senior posts in the British diplomatic system: National Security Adviser and Permanent Representative to the EU. He was appointed KCMG and later received a life peerage as Baron Darroch of Kew.
