S11E11 Back-Garden Archaeology: Revisiting a Roman Villa - Ipswich, Suffolk
Renowned archaeologist Basil Brown found that Castle Hill, near Ipswich, is named for a significant Roman villa rather than a castle. Unfortunately, he didn’t finish his excavation, prompting local schoolchildren to invite Time Team to uncover more information. To achieve this, they’ll have to dig in several backyards. It quickly becomes apparent that Brown's measurements were off. On the second day, Phil finally makes a key discovery, but it takes digging 11 trenches across 8 gardens before the complete story unfolds. The team is joined by Roman expert David Neale and site director Miles Russe.
